Empires sow the seeds of their own destruction. As an Empire becomes more powerful, power tends to corrupt and hoard or overextend resources to the detriment of community. For each individual, when basic needs aren’t met to some degree, a catalyst reaction often takes place where people undergo their own unique internal revolutions that actualize purpose built on meeting those needs. Social revolutions occur and sometimes topple Empires, when the power wielded by discontented internal revolutions outweigh the will and power of authority to maintain the status quo. But Empires don’t just die. Throughout millennia, they’ve transformed and evolved–or devolved–to help form the global civilizational empire we have today…
Are we better off or worse now? Increased life expectancies. Technological innovations. Pollution. Weapons of Mass Destruction. Climate Change. 6th Extinction Period. Global Conflicts. Comfort. Poverty-Death-Suffering. Labubus.
Are we more united or divided? This hodgepodge of “sovereign” states, multinational corporations, and other global power entities with various levels of military might, human rights and social-economic-political plights. The United Nations. World Olympics. FIFA? Global conflicts. Inequality. Discrimination and Marginalization. Massive population displacement and refugees. The “top 1%”. Left vs right, up vs down. Unifying religious teaching and practices vs religious exclusivism and dehumanization.
We have so many opinions and beliefs on such matters today, consequent in part, to having so many people with unprecedented levels of social and technological access and power. Each often believing, through the stimuli/conditioning/knowledge derived with experience, that they are right and each with some measure of ability to share those beliefs. Some actively sowing the seeds of internal revolutions, intentionally or otherwise, that promote or detract from social/political/economic agendas, for better or worse.
Truth? Even if objective reality exists and can be understood, it’s subjectively interpreted and acted upon. Fake news. Propaganda. Misinformation. False flag operations. “Those who shout loudest, impose their will” – VnV Nation.
Power to message and spread that message while promoting conditions in which that message is most persuasive appears to be the general way “Truth” is spread. Even blatant falsehoods, repeated often enough, start to sound like truth. Each of us, on the receiving end of our conditioning, trying to trust our understanding of truth and eke out a sense of purpose based on who and where we are along with the algorithms and echo chambers we are often subjected to. Many, perhaps most of us just wanting to be happy and nurture family. Many are willing to exploit others or the environment. Some strive to live out a truth where people and planet can figure out sustainable harmony premised upon simple wisdom: “United we stand, divided we fall.”
At this stage of Empire, seeking out a more perfect union via a United Human Perspective thus beckons we acknowledge the primacy of purpose for each individual and the extent to which purpose can be aligned with thoughts, words and actions that serve to promote wellness, Unity and environmental sustainability. Seemingly an impossible task as we consider much throughout this world: Poverty. Desperation. Manipulation vs Influence. Various people, institutions, countries, regions– especially those considered to have policies that support high levels of social and environmental sustainability—can help lead the way on governance. Cultural strengths, differences, and liabilities—with their current and historical icons around the world—help shape beliefs. Various industries and power structures are more and more being seen to manipulate cultures—to actively shape beliefs and further political aims. New and old technologies involved at all levels of existence with all their known or unknown risks. History and human nature showing that the propensity to destroy and neglect is ever at odds with the impetus to create and sustain. Wisdom helping to guide people and planet along the Way to manage those destructive tendencies to some extent. Most of human knowledge at our fingertips for the past few decades in one of the greatest playing field levelers and global connectors of our time—the Internet. Now we have the means to quickly and seamlessly scan the entirety of this knowledge, consolidate information, and generate outputs.
Welcome to the AI Revolution.
Virtually all industries are in process of being transformed by AI with applications for pattern recognition, prediction, and automation. The sheer size and scope of what this means, and the speed at which it’s being delivered, provide concerning food for thought. What are the dangers? Who gets left behind? How best can we make this work for society writ large?
Opportunities abound for both boon and bust with AI development in the near- and long-term. Cybersecurity, for example, becomes simultaneously enhanced with AI for protection, and threatened by AI for exploitation. Infrastructure wise, the servers that feed internet functionality and storage already require people to build and maintain them. This will mean more jobs, until at least it becomes cheaper for automation to do them. AI infrastructure requires substantial resources and already we have significant controversy around, for example, the massive amounts of water used by AI data centers are already fueling water scarcity in some areas.
Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are some of the big names, the “Frontier Labs”, who are on the cutting edge of AI development and largely concerned with autonomous AI initiatives (aka Agentic AI). These large AI companies have already demonstrated ethical concerns with developing AI (e.g. labor malpractice) along with how AI is being applied currently (e.g. deepfakes, data misuse, bias in AI systems, job displacement), to potentially engineering the great robot rebellion 100 years from now. Musk is talking about how his autonomous robots will be able to prevent crime from happening. Robots with ‘crime preventing’ capacity, whatever that may eventually entail, sounds like the plot of every robot dystopian movie ever.
Various governments, in partnership with “defense” industries, have been developing Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) for decades. With AI, these systems are now poised to become mainstream for the upgraded military. And as history has shown us, e.g. When the U.S.A. drastically curtailed domestic privacy protections following 9/11, a technologically advanced nation state might be just one crisis away from setting the conditions that would allow LAWS systems to be used for domestic Law Enforcement action.
But perhaps AI-augmented Military threats are too far removed at the moment. More and more, we are coming to rely on corporate-sponsored ‘Apps’ for everything. Thanks to an App, I can even marry my AI companion. For music, TV, movies, food, dating, social connection, and many other forms of entertainment—many apps already utilize AI in various ways to optimize their ability to do business—the most concerning aspect perhaps being in regard to privacy. “Big brother is watching you” was once exclusively thought of as policy for future dystopian Government that punishes free expression and controls citizenry in subservience to an elite class. Many have considered the Patriot Act’s effect on privacy to violate the 4th amendment and pose an existential risk to democracy. But these days, ‘Big Brother’ appears to manifest as more of a corporate-public complex that is increasingly securing power through political influence and shrewd capitalist maneuvering. Access to private records and surveillance appears to have flown past the realm of Government overreach. Now it’s just good business.
Currently, resources (especially food, oil and water) are still plentiful enough to sustain status quo economy for the vast majority of Earth’s inhabitants. And historically in times of widespread life-threatening resource shortages (Especially when corporations or monopolies profiteer rapaciously), social movements have “risen up” or otherwise influenced policy measures to help get peoples’ basic needs met without having to endure undue hardship. But what happens when political institutions become comprised of or largely influenced by corporate interests? When the levers of power have the ability to continuously track and monitor you? When “your” messaging becomes indistinguishable from “their” messaging? The danger may not be the arrival of some openly authoritarian future, but a more visceral form of control: One where we remain convinced we are freely (and righteously) supporting systems that actually limit opportunities for progress and advancement with an optimal quality of life. Society does not have to suppress rebellion if it can preemptively absorb it, brand it, monetize it, and feed it back as entertainment—assuming that the economy remains sufficiently vibrant with enough participants. But what happens when resources dwindle? And renewable or other technology is unable to keep pace with mitigating the consequences of resource depletion? Many are also concerned about the growing likelihood that over-valuation and banking on AI development shall lead from boon to bust and may usher in the next great economic recession.
Perhaps such a recession, in the context of these modern times of AI influenced industry, is the crisis that shall usher in the next round of cuts to civil liberties. Increasing the likelihood of such reality are some indirect harms AI is already responsible for re. increased cynicism and devaluation of truth on cultural levels throughout the world. The first time I learned about the “Liar’s Dividend”, I was looking at recent reports of devastation in Gaza which included verified pictures of dead and dying children to which many of comments were “FAKE” or “AI”. Automatic dismissal of legitimate fact-based and objective reporting seems to have already become cultural norm. Such reality has a paralytic effect on knowing, and knowing how to act. The gears that guide peoples’ internal revolutions and meaningful collective action buckle and stutter, having to deal with the muck of misinformation. Autonomous and meaningful purpose-driven human behavior has become more challenging and scarce. Ability for external actors to secure and maintain power via influencing that purpose, through many of the channels already mentioned, becomes more likely. Wellness, writ large, is at stake.
As mentioned, so-called “Frontier Labs” for AI development are those on the “cutting edge” of AI development–the big names and well-funded players. But there are lesser-known companies working on the frontier of ethical and sustainable AI development—aiming to responsibly integrate AI into society in a way that first and foremost benefits people, writ large.
That is why X-OPOLIS gains a substantial edge over other status quo AI companies.
Check out: www.xopol.is for some seriously big-brained game-aware future of work considerations paired with ethical AI development. At the heart of X-opolis is a knowing that having widespread access to meaningful purpose supports a healthy and functioning society. Helping people to find such purpose amidst the complexity of today’s global economy, becomes purpose in of itself. For example, X-opolis has mapped the world of work helping people align their skills and interests with professions and career paths. X-opolis also equips us with tools and strategies to customize our own AI assistants. But even more so, X-opolis assistants can be tailor made to reflect our own individualized thinking and decision-making patterns. With an assistant who thinks and produces like you do, but much faster, what would you do with all the extra time at your disposal?
Intention Begets the Destination
No matter how we choose to live our lives, it’s apparent that the future appears bleak to many. Notions of empathy or sustainability often give way to cynical notions of “What’s the point?” or somewhat pragmatic sentiments of “that’s not going to put food on the table or protect me and my family”. Empathy has even been branded “toxic”. Division comes standard these days. Regardless, there is hope that UHP culture permeating throughout society is attainable through directed focus and ethical use of AI. History is replete with examples of how such Hope-guided activity existed to facilitate unity among political rivals, warring factions or recovery for devastated disparate groups–turning skepticism into trust. Consider post-World War II Europe and how cooperative economic agreements coupled with cultural development and narrative change efforts, helped transform enemies into partners—serving to make cooperation the norm. Similar efforts helped promote peace in Northern Ireland, led to the end of Apartheid in South Africa, and promoted peace between Israel and Egypt with the Camp David Accords.
We now have in humanity’s peacebuilding arsenal, thanks to AI, the ability to supercharge social and economic cooperative efforts.
What does this mean for UHP form and function? For now, UHP aims to create an AI sentinel—imbedded unto the UHP website, that can promote UHP mission and values in a variety of ways. Through a lens that considers all relationships to and among Freedom, Respect, Safety, and Love, this UHP-AI Sentinel shall serve as an autonomous responder capable of interfacing with humans or bots to promote wellness-aligned self and social development paired with environmental sustainability.
UHP-AI Sentinel shall help create the Wisdom Repository—A tool that is both process and product driven—responding to individual-level queries while also mapping out paths to wellness, Unity and environmental sustainability… facilitating manifestation of meaningful individual purpose and effective collective action. This will involve the formation of dynamic and fluid working map systems that serve to objectively assess, in real time, the spectra and state of worldwide ecological and human suffering vs wellness. Another key function of this repository is the creation of media that depicts organizational and relationship ecosystems that already promote UHP mission and values.
Practically, UHP-AI sentinel can be a tool used in real time to assess information through a UHP lens and provide comprehensive UHP-aligned responses—a tool that shall become invaluable to any UHP-aligned Leader. Eventually, UHP as a modality, will help with minimizing the noise of information overload and misinformation agendas by stimulating critical thinking via a values-based framework for processing history, news, policies and new information in general.
By greasing up the gears that guide internal revolutions, UHP-AI can help optimize the vehicles that individuals, couples, communities, organizations, and nations use to accelerate wellness and cooperation which boosts sustainability technology best practices development and adoption—helping people to get along and solve problems for the agreed betterment of All.
